FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
|
Do the needles hurt?
Because of their fineness, they normally do not “hurt”. The needles used are very fine, from 0.18mm
to 0.25mm in diameter or similar to a human hair. You may feel a slight stick when the needle goes
through the skin. During the subsequent insertion of the needle, you may feel heaviness, tingling,
itching or “movement” within the local area of the needle. These sensations are normal.
How do I know if Acupuncture is right for me?
To determine if we can help you, we schedule you to come in for a 1/2 hour Initial Consultation. We
use this step to evaluate you and determine if you are a candidate for Acupuncture and/or Oriental
Medicine.
If you can help me then what?
If you are a candidate, the next step is an Oriental Medicine Exam and either start treatments right
away or schedule you to come in to start your treatments -- it's up to you!
What's the difference between the "Initial Consultation" and the "Oriental Medicine
Examination"?
The Initial Consultation involves a series of questions pertaining to your condition and how it impacts
your life. It's done to qualify a patient for acupuncture or refer them out if necessary. The Oriental
Medicine Examination is used to find out what is causing your problem by finding what is interfering
with your body's ability to heal. It will tell us exactly what is holding your healing back i.e. Organ
malfunction, energy stagnation and/or improper blood flow. We use classic Chinese Pulse Diagnosis,
Tongue Diagnosis and other tests as necessary (palpation, range of motion) to show the state or level
of functioning of your organs, energy and blood.
How long does each visit take and how much will it cost?
The Initial Consultation is 30 minutes. If you decide to start acupuncture treatments right away, the
first visit will take 2 hours. Acupuncture-only treatments take about 50 min to 1 hour. Current pricing
can be found at www.bellanovaspa.com.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on each individual, your particular complaint and overall health
status. Chronic conditions will take longer to resolve than acute conditions. Twice per week
treatments are recommended to achieve the best results. The Cosmetic Acupuncture Protocol
consists of 10 treatments initially (twice a week for 5 weeks), with once a month to once a quarter
follow-up visits as maintenance.
If you cannot help me then what?
Unfortunately, we can't help everyone. If after evaluating your condition, it's determined that we can't
help you, we will ensure that you are referred to the most appropriate healthcare provider.
Do you participate with any insurance companies?
Yes, we are "in-network" with both Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and United Healthcare (UHC)
and their associated plans. We also accept other insurance plans as an "out-of-network" provider
(with reduced benefits, higher copays and deductibles for the patient).
As long as your insurance plan includes acupuncture coverage and your symptom/condition meets
your plan's requirements, it may reduce your out of pocket expenses for acupuncture treatments.
Please call our office before your initial visit and we will verify your insurance for you!
